I was getting off a train the other day and as I stepped out I saw this beautiful woman. She was immaculate! Her hair was perfect, her makeup was spot on and her outfit showed off her rocking figure with colours that complemented her in every way.
So I told her! I couldn't help it. As I passed her I said "You look spectacular today!". With a little bit of bewilderment and a small smile she said thank you and got on the train and we both carried on with our day.
The men I was with had a little giggle and I had to questioned them "What? She did look amazing!" and they agreed whole heartedly. Ensuing in a conversation about how important i feel it is for women to give each other compliments.
What I had just done was pass on a complement to someone, that not only deserved it, but may have needed that more than I will ever know. It also gave her permission to feel like she was smoking hot that day and she could own it!
Have you ever seen a woman transform into a bride? They look incredible!!!
On your wedding day you have prepared your body, done your nails, gotten your hair and make up done, you get to wear a beautiful dress and you know you are expected to look damn fine, you're the bride. You tell yourself you are allowed to feel beautiful!
Brides know it is their day to shine. They are allowed to be the prettiest woman in the room. They are allowed to walk with their heads held high, grace in their step and to look in peoples eyes, knowing that they are expected to be beautiful today.
ONE DAY!!!??? This is all us ladies allow ourselves?????????? WTF. Truly. Think about that for a second...
If we gave ourselves permission to feel beautiful everyday the world would be a much more kick arse place to be in.
So I am asking you to do two things. Most women will wake up in the morning and when they look in the mirror will say the exact same thing in the mirror that they have said every morning for who knows how long. It will usually be the same old insults. Gee I look tired, look at those bags, my skin is awful, I think I'm getting fatter... My god the list could go on forever!!! So here is my challenge to you...
1. Tell yourself 3 things you love about yourself first thing. Start small, do you like your nails? your teeth? Your dimples? Your chin, foot, elbow? god anything you love praise it!!! If you can, try and make it 3 new things everyday. Write a post-it and stick it to your bathroom mirror if you need to remind your sleepy morning self that you are actually a kick arse human with so many wonderful things going for you.
Do you hate your arms? or are you forever grateful that you have two awesome arms that have two capable hands on the ends of them and you can drive, sew, cuddle, drink coffee and read a book without having to think about it too much.
2. Tell someone else something that you love about them. It doesn't have to be a stranger, but I find strangers tend to believe you quicker than friends. Give them permission to feel good about themselves. If we all gave each other permission to feel good about ourselves we wouldn't just have one day.
You don't have to wait till you get married to feel that good. I'd be happy to prove my point if you need me to. Come play with me and my amazing team and we will show you what your mirror seems to have forgotten. And if you need a glass of bubbles while we're at it that can be arranged. Liquid courage is not off the table ;)
I'm not saying you need to be made up to the hilt every day. That's unachievable, and who would want to, sheesh! I'm saying just give your inner chick permission to rock out more often and enjoy that confidence. The world needs your awesome!
Life is not just one day. Give yourself permission to be amazing, beautiful and the centre of attention every now and then. You might even find you like it.
You all rock and I think you have lovely ear lobes ;) .
